Spotlight On Dry Shampoo

March 5, 2023 , Uncategorized

Four research papers that mention dry shampoo point somewhere less obvious: hospital wards, a beauty salon in Brazil, a French exposure study and a US digital cohort. Here is what those sources say about where it gets used and by whom, followed by a short look at the “dry” end of the date shelf, since that is what this site covers.

In hospitals, as part of waterless care

Water and wastewater in healthcare settings are recognised as a risk to patients. That is the starting line of a 2024 questionnaire study from ARHAI Scotland, part of NHS National Services Scotland, which asked infection prevention staff, clinicians and estates engineers about “waterless care”.

Dry shampoo came up as one of the harder parts. The authors report that alternatives to water, “particularly cleansing wipes for bathing and dry shampoo”, face challenges in how acceptable patients find them. So it is one of the water alternatives being weighed for hospital care, and patient acceptance is the barrier the respondents flagged.

How often people use it

A Harvard-led study of personal care products, published in Environment International in 2026, gives a usage figure. Among several thousand female participants under 50 in a US-based digital cohort, 8% used dry shampoo three or more times a week. Body fragrance, for comparison, was at 54% on the same measure.

In France, researchers in Brest estimated how much hair product people are exposed to, using earlier consumption data. Their 2016 paper covered eleven products, from liquid shampoo and conditioner to styling wax and spray. For this product, they note, exposure was being assessed for the first time.

In salons and in the formula

In Brazil, a 2024 case report describes cornstarch hair masks, called touca de gesso locally, used as a dry shampoo. The authors add that these masks are a blend of cornstarch and other ingredients, which may include talc powder. Separately, a 2023 perspective article on formulation polymers names aluminum starch octenylsuccinate as an ingredient “used in dry shampoo to absorb oils and sweat”.

The dry end of the date shelf

On a site called Date Fruits, “dry” usually means the fruit. Tamr (tamar) is the fully ripe, drier stage of a date. Rutab is the soft, fresh-ripe one. Several semi-dry kinds come from Iran.

Sayer, also traded as Stamaran, comes from Khuzestan and is amber-brown. Mariami is an Iranian date too: dark, semi-dry and chewy. Piarom is grown in Hormozgan, dark with a thin skin. Mariami and Piarom are separate varieties, even when product names put the two words side by side.

For a soft contrast there is Ajwa from Madinah, small and near-black. Green Diamond, a Malaysian kurma wholesaler, has a page for a 1kg Ajwa VVIP Jumbo pack, linked here as Kurma Ajwa sekilo. When we checked on 17 October 2026 it was out of stock. Its main site is behind this Kurma Ajwa link.

Ordering dates through Date Fruits

Every date sold in Malaysia is imported, because the country has no commercial date-growing trade. Ramadan is the peak, and Hari Raya, weddings and umrah gifts are other busy times, so plan those orders early.

Date Fruits serves retail and wholesale buyers and delivers nationwide; the About us page has the details. Send a message or tap WhatsApp on the contact page for a quote. Older articles on single varieties are collected on the Date Fruits blog.
